Jaymie Derksen

2010 was a very memorable year for me; I graduated high school and got to participate in the Miss BC Pageant. The weekend still seems surreal sometimes, it goes by so fast yet it's such an amazing experience; the memories will last a lifetime. It helped me step out of my comfort zone. I learned that I could actually speak to a large group of people (sometimes), I was introduced to so many amazing women that have enriched my life. With my title I was invited to many charity events in Prince George such as the Terry Fox Run and the Relay for Life with Cops for Cancer.

I currently live in Prince George working for BCAA dealing with mainly automotive insurances and will be working my way up to selling travel and home insurance. We recently purchased a house last year which we will be updating this summer with plans to add to our family in the future. Until then I spend most of my spare time at the gym, playing soft ball, walking my dog and camping.

Thanks to Miss BC I gained a lot of self-confidence which has encouraged me to do many things I wouldn’t have done before. It also brought many influential women into my life that I cherish and look up to today. I would recommend this program to anyone; I honestly wish it was more widely known in Northern BC. Some of the functions surrounding the excitement are a bit far for us to get to. We’re kind of in our own world up here.

I would like to thank Darren and Gloria and the entire Miss BC team for everything they did for me. Good luck to all the future contestants!
