Frances Oliver

During my time as Miss Teen Fraser Valley I have met so many unique members of my community and learned so many valuable lessons.

I was able to listen to stories from the seniors, about the trials they have faced in their lives and was given priceless advice. I took part in communication with my peers, learning what they think about their role in society, eventually giving a TEDx talk. I was a voice (I hope) to my fellow youth. Finally, I spent much of my time with our future, the children. I learned resilience, how to bounce back, how to smile despite the chaos, and how to be totally honest.

I thought the time with my crown might go to my head, but it was entirely humbling. I have learned how to be grateful and resourceful with what I have and to stretch resources to strengthen the impact. My community has joined me in tears and lifted my soul with laughter.

The connections and courage I have gained from my days as a Miss BC titleholder are priceless. I am so thankful for this experience and I hope somehow, in the years to come, I will be able to give back to my community a fraction of what they have given to me.
